J-TSOON6 2025 MINIATURE PAINTING COMPETITION RULES
The J-TSOON6 Miniature Painting Competition will be held on 12th and 13th of April at Kultuurikatel, Tallinn, Estonia. Participants in this competition will have the opportunity to display their selected entries, and we’ll be awarding prizes to the most outstanding works.Â
We look forward to seeing the incredible artistry that the Miniature Painting Competition will bring to J-TSOON6 2025!
1. Miniature painting rules
- The miniature can be anything as long as it counts as a miniature. Person, animal, tank or fantasy creature, anything goes.Â
- We only accept original works. This means that while you can be inspired by others, the final work should reflect your own creativity and unique approach. Your miniature should not be a direct copy of any existing tutorial or guide.
- Miniatures should adhere to a reasonable size and scale suitable for display purposes. Extreme sizes that may disrupt the overall presentation might not be allowed.
- Miniatures should be mounted on a display base to ensure their safe transportation by festival staff and judges during the event.
- Contestants are required to use unpainted miniature models for their entries.Â
- Entries must adhere to a standard of respect and decency. The use of obscenities, profanities, gestures encouraging violence, and pornography is strictly prohibited. Entries that go against cultural and/or social norms will not be permitted. Please ensure that your entries are ethical and maintain an aesthetic and respectful tone.
2. Registration
- To participate in the competition, mandatory presence at the event is required to be eligible for prizes.
- Participants must complete the official registration form available on the J-TSOON website.
- Participants must be 13 years or older to participate.
- The deadline for submissions is Sunday 16.03.2025 at 23:59.
- It is allowed to submit a maximum of 1 miniature work per participant.
- Entries must be registered by the person who painted them — no one else can hand participant’s entry in for participant.
3. Judging Criteria:
The Miniature Painting contest will be judged by a set of judges who will evaluate the following criteria:
- Painting Style: Each section of the work demonstrates meticulous painting from all angles, showcasing a smooth technique, whether it be in a traditional or freehand painting style. Layers of paint exhibit seamless blending without excessive texture, and outlines in various painted sections are carefully executed, showcasing precision.
- Craftsmanship: The miniature and base assembly reflects meticulous preparation. Surface defects like mold lines and printing supports are absent. Conversions, if present, seamlessly integrate with the original miniature, making them indistinguishable.
- Composition: The miniature and base components form a cohesive entity, complementing each other. The composition guides the viewer’s gaze to the focal point, enhancing the overall visual appeal.
4. Organizational Matters Related to Competition
- Participants must attend J-TSOON6 on 12th and 13th of April 2025 to enter the Miniature Painting competition.
- Participants must arrive at the designated registration time, which will be provided in the email after your application is accepted for the check-in. If you fail to check-in on time you will not be eligible to win the prize.
- Festival staff may request an identification document from you in case of any suspicion regarding the participant’s identity. This could be a passport, ID card, driver’s license, or student ID.
- As organizers, we aim to accommodate up to 20 entries for the competition. Entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. In the event that the number of submissions surpasses this limit, we may consider selecting participants based on the order of their application.
- We prioritize inclusivity and welcome participants of all experience levels.
- If the number of applications exceeds capacity by a significant margin, organizers reserve the right to close the competition early.
- In the event of disqualification or if a participant voluntarily withdraws from the competition, we will contact the next participant on the list who has submitted an application.
- The winners of the Miniature Painting Competition will be announced at the J-TSOON6 on Sunday 13th of April 2025.
- While the J-TSOON team will do their best to handle miniatures with care, J-TSOON cannot assume responsibility for any potential damage or theft of contest entries. Contestants acknowledge that, by entering the competition, their work may be on display overnight.
- Any breaches of the aforementioned rules may lead to disqualification from the competition.Â
Note: The organizers reserve the right to make changes to the rules and regulations of the competition to ensure fair judging, maintain order, and ensure the safety of all participants.
